Money and Lies

Published by billalton at 7:07 pm under Depression, Marriage, Relationships Edit This

Yesterday my wife busted me for writing bad checks. I’ve been lying about it for a week. Finally, she got fed up with it.

“You’re lying Bill.”

“No…”

“You’re lying Bill.”

“I told you…”

“You’re lying Bill.”

She said often enough that I ran out of justifications and stories.

“I’m thinking about taking you off the account.”

No that just pissed me off. I don’t know why. It makes sense. But I’m a grown up and should be able to handle my money. The problem is, I don’t handle my money. I find ways to skim or outright steal money to suppliment my habits. (I’m a chain smoker and drink between 2 and 4 gallons of soda a day.)

The hardest part was looking at her and finally admitting I’d been stealing again and that it would probably be a good idea to take me off the account. I hate being a thief and I hate getting caught worse. The only redemption was when my wife slid her hand into mine. She didn’t say anything. Neither did I. Sometimes silence can save the day.
